Obama-Biden Nuclear Accord – ‘Worst Diplomatic Deal Since Munich Appeasement’

As the Trump administration pushes to implement the ‘snapback’ provisions of the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran, National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, says that Obama-Biden deal was the worst diplomatic compact since the 1938 Munich Agreement. Responding to former Obama-Biden Secretary of State John Kerry’s statement defending Obama’s foreign policies, including the Iran deal, Fox News reported O’Brien as saying:

John Kerry and the JCPOA [nuclear deal] gave Iran $150 billion in sanctions relief. That was the Obama-Biden administration. Iran spent that money not on its own people, not to build a middle class in Iran. They spent it on terrorist activities in Lebanon, and Syria, and Iraq, in Yemen, so the JCPOA was no great deal. In fact, it was the worst diplomatic deal since the Munich appeasement in 1938.

The Munich Agreement was negotiated primarily by disgraced former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, and France, with Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. Hailed by Chamberlain as achieving “peace for our time,” it allowed Hitler’s troops to annex Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland, and by its weakness prepared the way for World War Two. Its is now known as one of history’s biggest blunders and failed case of diplomatic appeasement.

O’Brien added, according to Fox News:

Secretary Kerry’s comments were ironic in that ISIS was running a caliphate the size of Great Britain across Syria and Iraq when he left office. The Iran deal contributed to that. The precipitous withdrawal of American troops from Iraq precipitated ISIS, Americans were killed … brutally executed by ISIS, and it took Donald Trump to bring justice to Baghdadi [former ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi]. It took Donald Trump to destroy the ISIS caliphate.

Trump withdrew the U.S. from the nuclear deal in 2018 and has since been pursuing a policy of ‘maximum pressure’ against the rogue Iranian regime. This hardline policy has crippled Iran’s economy, and the regime has seen massive protests, disturbances, and sabotage across the country.

President Trump also ordered a bold surprise strike in January 2020 against Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s terror mastermind and commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s notorious Quds Force. Many security experts believe that strike shocked the Iranian leadership and severely crippled its ability to orchestrate its imperial project across the region.

If Trump is successful with ‘snapback,’ all sanctions against Iran that were suspended under the 2015 nuclear deal will resume in 31 days under a process Secretary of State Mike Pompeo started Thursday.

Whether O’Brien is right, or slightly overstating his case, no one can accuse President Trump of appeasing Iran.
